The concept of a Barn Quilt began with Donna Sue Groves and her wish to honor her mother, Maxine, and her Appalachian heritage by having a painted quilt hung on her barn in Adams County, Ohio. Donna Sue continued to share this idea with friends and the idea morphed from full quilts to quilt blocks. The first "Barn Quilt" was hung in Ohio in 2001. The simple idea has spread to 48 states and to Canada.
Debbie grew up quilting with her mom. It seemed appropriate to add Barn Quilts to the building. "I wanted to add some color and do what I could to "beautify" the building in the interim," said Debbie. (The plan is to tear down and rebuild in 2024.) The previous owner is from Lancaster, PA. Combining that with my love of quilting and the future home of Full Moon Trading Co where local artisans may sell, gave way to the idea for Barn Quilts.
